(Saturday) Scott
McKenzie Bike Run
Thank you for considering to be a part of our first annual Scott Mckenzie
bike run! The bike run will take place on Saturday, July 31st.
Registration will begin at 10:30 am here at Boston Billiard Club. The run
will commence at 12 pm. The ride will go up to Henniker and than return
back to the club. The cost is $25 a bike and free for passengers. 100% of
the proceeds from this event will be donated in Scott Mckenzie's name, to
the Pediatric Hematology Oncology fund at Mass General Hospital for
Children. The rain date for this event is Saturday, August 7th. (The
following Saturday of the original event.)
The pediatric Hematology program has specialized expertise and provides
inpatient and outpatient care to children with non-malignant diseases of
white blood cells, anemias, bleeding and clotting disorders. The pediatric
Oncology program has recognized expertise in leukemias, lymphomas,
high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue, bone and soft tissue
sarcomas, retinoblastoma and brain tumors-provides comprehensive care to
children with all types of cancer.
Scott McKenzie is 20 years old and currently being treated at Mass General
in the pediatric oncology unit for Medulloblastoma. Medulloblastoma is the
most common malignant central nervous system tumor of childhood. It
accounts for 15-20 percent of pediatric brain tumors. Scott was diagnosed
on January 1st 2010. He had a brain tumor that was 3-4 cm (about the size
of a golf ball) near his brain stem.
The cancerous tumor was successfully removed at Mass General in a 10 hour
surgery. Unfortunately, removing the tumor was not the end of Scott\'s
battle with cancer. Once the tumor is removed there are still cancerous
cells that must be treated. Scott is currently being treated with a
combination of radiation and chemotherapy. He is holding strong and has a
tremendous amount of support from his friends and family. To learn more
about Scott visit his carepages website at www.carepages.com
and search "Scott Mckenzie". His profile is titled Scott vs.
Frank. (Scott whom has a witty sense of humor named his tumor Frank.)
Please join us after the run, at Boston Billiard Club in Nashua for our
after party. WAAF will be present to give away Red Sox tickets! We will
also have other raffles and giveaways in addition to that. There will be a
dunk tank where you get the chance to dunk some of our staff by purchasing
3 balls for $5. The money raised from the dunk tank will be used to buy
games and toys for the children at the hospital that have to stay for long
periods of time and/or live at the hospital. There will be a live special
guest band TBD & 2 DJ\'s performing all night also there will be food,
raffles, bike games, stunt riding, vendors and more.
Again, we thank you for supporting this great cause. It is very much
appreciated from our entire staff, MassGeneral, Scott Mckenzie, and the
McKenzie family. |
