Some
guidelines for safe group riding
Ride in staggered formation. (when you ride "two up" you leave
no room to move over if a vehicle comes into your lane. Riding staggered file
ensures the safety of all riders)
Keep a safe distance behind the bike in front of you and know the stopping power
of your motorcycle. Watch ahead and be prepared for sudden tops or
maneuvers.
Do not change lanes or positions in the middle of an organized ride.
Try to maintain a constant speed and do not "rubber band" (speed up
and slow down).
When in a tight curve, stay clear of oncoming traffic lane. In some
instances, it may be necessary to ride in single-file formation. (The Road
Captain will signal this with one finger in the air)
Be aware of openings as you ride so you have an escape route in case of an
emergency. Be aware of the riders around you, and do not ride so close as
to cut off adequate room to move in any situation that may arise.
Use hand signals, point out road hazards as a courtesy to those behind you.
Be sure your bike is in good mechanical condition, fully gassed and ready for
the trip.
Make certain that everything is packed properly and tied down securely so no
loose ends are hanging down, which can get caught in the spokes or hub.
When a cager breaks up the pack, try to give them berth, hopefully they'll
realize their mistake soon, and get out of the way. If you can safely go around
them to maintain the pack do so, otherwise, let them be 'til they get out of the
way.

It is never recommended to ride Two Abreast. When one rides in that fashion they take
away their own safety zone and the safety zone of the party riding beside them.
